Airbnb’s new Experiences platform lets hosts share not just their home, but their knowledge of the local culture. As part of the platform’s global launch, Airbnb partnered with culinary collective Ghetto Gastro to offer VIP guests an intimate look at what it has to offer.
Harlem World was an immersive experience designed to touch on all five senses. The event wove together narrative storytelling about the history of the iconic neighborhood with unique set design, live music performances, an innovative menu, and even a custom ‘Harlem World’ scent. Imagined as a journey through time and place, Harlem World featured a series of interconnecting rooms that revealed surprises at every turn.
To set the foundation for each room, I designed a custom identity of four legendary eras of Harlem. I worked directly with an architect, set designer, and producer to build a strong visual narrative through out the installations, culinary experiences, and content projections in the space.
In addition to all signage and menus, I designed a fully customized Harlem World gift set including a limited edition bag, branded coffee packaging, and an editorial magazine featuring content all curated and shot by our team. Each moment was designed with the intention of bringing to life the timeless culture and characters of Harlem.
